**********Go to “Investments Core Portfolio” for current holdings.**********
Update: We SOLD.
(Update December 2013: If you own this, HOLD for the dividends. But do not buy GEK now or add to positions as rising interest rates would drive the price down, and I just don’t want to get involved with any more preferreds. IF you decide to buy, just b aware that you may see a decline in value due to rising interest rates. GEK may be called at $25 at maturity (2018) but does not have to b called until 2043. You have INTEREST RATE RISK here. Be cautious.) I have been watching GEK for months and months, trying to get this thing on sale. The technicals are telling me that we may have finally, finally reached that point.
GEK is a General Electric Preferred that is callable in 2018 at $25.00. If called you would earn $5/share. But I am really interested in the nice dividends of just under 6% that you earn while waiting. Current price is $19.87 and this can be bought under $20.00 You should plan on holding GEK until called. GEK is ‘investment’ grade and backed by a humongous world-wide billion dollar Company.
We talked about VNR, an MLP on August 27. It is going ex-dividend on September 27th and this could be an opportunity to buy more if we get the typical price pullback on ex-div dates. Try to get around $27.51
